MICCOO FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers about connection, formatting, compatibility and everyday use of your MICCOO portable hard drive.

01 Why is my MICCOO drive not recognized?
+

Disconnect the drive and reconnect it directly to a compatible USB port. Avoid using an unpowered USB hub when troubleshooting. You can also try another USB port and confirm that the cable is securely connected.

If the drive still does not appear, check your operating system's disk management or storage utility to see whether the drive is detected.

02 Why can macOS read the drive but not write to it?
+

MICCOO portable hard drives are pre-formatted in NTFS. macOS can normally read NTFS drives, but native write support may be limited.

If you need regular read and write access on both Windows and macOS, exFAT is generally a more suitable format.

Reformatting erases the data currently stored on the drive. Back up important files before formatting.
03 How do I connect the drive to a USB-C device?
+

Connect the included Micro-B to USB-A cable to the hard drive. Then insert the USB-A end into the included USB-C adapter and connect the adapter to a compatible USB-C port.

HDD → USB-A Cable → USB-C Adapter → USB-C Device
04 What format does the drive use?
+

The drive is supplied pre-formatted in NTFS. This format is suitable for normal read and write use with compatible Windows 11 and Windows 10 computers.

For regular use between Windows and macOS, exFAT is generally recommended.

05 Why does the available capacity look smaller than 500GB or 1TB?
+

Storage manufacturers and operating systems can calculate and display storage capacity differently. Formatting and file-system information also use a small portion of the drive.

As a result, the capacity shown by your computer may be lower than the capacity printed on the product packaging.

06 Can I use the drive with Xbox or PS4?
+

The drive may be used with supported Xbox and PS4 consoles, but the console may require the drive to be formatted before use. Requirements can vary by console model and system software.

Console formatting can erase existing files. Back up important data before proceeding.
07 Can I connect the hard drive to an Android phone or tablet?
+

Selected Android devices with OTG support may work with external storage. Compatibility depends on the device model, operating system, available USB power and file system.

If the drive is recognized, use the device's file manager to access or transfer supported files.

08 Do I need an external power adapter?
+

No separate power adapter is normally required. The MICCOO portable hard drive is powered through its USB connection.

09 Should I safely eject the drive before unplugging it?
+

Yes. Wait until file transfers are complete, then use your operating system's eject or safe-removal function before disconnecting the drive.

Do not unplug the drive while files are being transferred, formatted or written.

10 What should I do if I still need help?
