Use the Right Format
for Your Devices
MICCOO portable hard drives are supplied pre-formatted in NTFS. Compatibility and read/write support can vary by operating system, device and file system.
Windows 11 / 10
NTFS supports normal read and write use on compatible Windows computers.
macOS
macOS can normally read NTFS drives, but native write support may be limited. exFAT is recommended when regular Windows and macOS read/write access is needed.
ChromeOS
Supported on compatible ChromeOS devices. Available file-system features may vary by device and operating system version.
Linux
Supports compatible Linux systems. File-system support can vary by distribution and system configuration.
Android OTG
Selected Android OTG devices may support external storage. Compatibility depends on the device, operating system, USB power and file system.
NTFS or exFAT?
Choose the file system based on the devices you plan to use with your MICCOO drive.
NTFS
Best suited for normal use with compatible Windows computers.
exFAT
A practical option when regularly moving files between compatible Windows and macOS computers.
Back Up Your Files First
Reformatting changes the file system used by the drive and normally erases the data currently stored on it. Copy important files to another location before formatting.
Keep another copy of files you do not want to lose.
Use NTFS mainly for Windows, or consider exFAT for regular Windows and macOS use.
Wait for file transfers to finish before disconnecting the drive.
Device Compatibility Notes
Selected Android devices may support external storage. Compatibility depends on OTG support, USB power, operating system and file system.
Supported Xbox consoles may require the drive to be formatted by the console before storage use.
PS4 may require the drive to be formatted for extended storage before it can be used.
